The prime time to fish here is all summer - well not quite, but since we fish three areas there is usually somewhere to catch salmon and halibut. Most recommended times are:

  • December to May for the feeder Chinooks and some halibut starting to show in Ucluelet around mid May
  • May - July for Halibut in Ucluelet and large numbers of Chinook(King) salmon.(they run all summer).
  • July 15 - September 10 in Ucluelet for large Kings
  • July, August and September for Coho in Ucluelet

Ucluelet has been very hot the last few years and is expected to continue for this year. If you are trying to decide what time in the summer to come, any time between May and September is good. While June, July and August are peak months, September and October can still see good action as well. Many people are concerned about catching fish, so one thing to note about Ucluelet is that it is not like some other areas that have really slow times and really good times. We have a large area to choose from and there are so many fish travelling past, that you almost always have a good shot of a good days fishing, whether coming in May, June, July, August or September.

Salmon Report:

Well Salmon fishing doesn't get much better than this! Try putting your lines down and if you haven't had a hit in the first few minutes you are in the wrong spot. Salmon fishing is what we call here "Goin off!" Today was one of those perfect days where you just have to go out fishing. Sun, no wind and ofcourse...lots of fish. Salmon were hitting the line every minute it seemed like and we just kept the biggest ones. We had boats in three places today. Big Bank, Lighthouse bank and Barclay Sound and all customers came home extremely happy(notice the smiles). Salmon were biting on spoons and hutchies. We did very well on a 5 inch coyote spoon--it didn't seem to matter which color.

What a day!

Halibut Report

Halibut fishing the last few days has been great on Big Bank, especially around the Rats nose. We have also been fishing the Lighthouse bank as well and getting what we need. We are trolling the halibut on the bottom as well as bottom bouncing to speed things up sometimes.

Thanks to all of you who read my reports,

Many thanks for giving our family such a memorable fishing adventure. The fish made it home safely, though we did need to buy another cooler!
